These are the two floors we install most in Tampa, and both handle Florida humidity, sandy feet and pets far better than solid hardwood or carpet. The choice usually comes down to feel, sound and how long you plan to stay.
Luxury vinyl plank (LVP) is softer and warmer underfoot, quieter than tile, and quicker to install because there is no grout to cure. Quality rigid-core products are water resistant and come in convincing wood and stone looks. Loc, one of our Tampa reviewers, chose vinyl flooring that looks like tile for his kitchen and floors with Adam as project manager, which is a good example of how far tile-look vinyl has come.
Porcelain tile is harder, very durable and nearly impossible to hurt with water. It stays cool, which many Florida homeowners like, and it is the long-term choice for wet areas and high-traffic rooms. It takes more time to install and needs a flatter slab, especially in large formats.
