Kitchen cabinets in Tampa: new and custom

Cabinets decide how your kitchen works. They set where the sink and range go, how much you can store, where the island lands and how the room looks from the living area. That is why we treat cabinet installation as a layout decision first and a style decision second.

We install new cabinets and also handle custom cabinet construction for spaces that standard boxes do not fit well, such as an awkward corner, a tall pantry wall or cabinets that run to the ceiling where an old soffit used to be. Kitchens are the project our Tampa clients review most. Ron, whose kitchen was handled by Dean and Johnny, wrote that the team was always responsive to his questions.

Planning the layout

Start with how you use the kitchen. Where do groceries land, where do you prep, where do pots live, and who else is in the room while you cook? Answers to those questions drive drawer versus door choices, where the trash pullout goes and whether an island makes sense.

In many 1960s to 1980s Tampa homes, the original cabinets stop short of the ceiling under a soffit and the corners are dead space. Removing the soffit, adding taller uppers and using corner pullouts or blind-corner organizers can add a surprising amount of storage without changing the footprint.

  • Pantry cabinets, pull-out pantries and tall storage walls
  • Islands with seating, drawers and outlets
  • Deep drawers for pots instead of base doors
  • Trash and recycling pullouts near the sink
  • Appliance garages and microwave cabinets

Cabinet materials for Florida humidity

Tampa kitchens deal with humidity year round, plus the occasional leak under the sink. Cabinet boxes are generally built from plywood or particleboard (often sold as furniture board or MDF). Plywood tends to hold screws well and resist swelling better if it gets wet, while particleboard is more affordable but can swell and lose strength if water sits on an exposed edge.

Many homeowners choose plywood for the sink base at minimum, since that is where water damage usually starts. Door style, finish and hardware are separate decisions. We go over the options at the estimate so you can weigh durability against budget.

Soft-close hardware and finishing details

Soft-close hinges and full-extension, soft-close drawer slides are now common on new cabinets, and they are worth having. Doors and drawers do not slam, and full-extension drawers let you reach the back without digging.

Crown molding, light rail for under-cabinet lighting, finished end panels, toe kick details and filler strips are what make a cabinet install look built in rather than dropped in. We plan those details along with the countertops, since counters are templated after the cabinets are set and level.

What is cabinet refacing in Tampa?

Cabinet refacing keeps your existing cabinet boxes and replaces what you see: new doors and drawer fronts, a veneer applied over the face frames and exposed sides, and new hardware. Because the boxes stay in place, the layout, sink and countertops can often stay too.

Refacing can make sense when the boxes are structurally sound, dry and square, and you like your current layout. It is usually not the right call if there is water damage, if you want to move the sink or range, add an island or change cabinet heights, or if you plan to replace the countertops anyway. Ask us whether refacing or new cabinets fits your kitchen, and we will give you a straight answer after looking at the boxes.

Cabinets as part of a full kitchen remodel

If you are replacing cabinets, you are already halfway into a kitchen remodel. The countertops, backsplash and sometimes the flooring and plumbing all come out with them. Doing those pieces together under one contract usually costs less in labor and disruption than doing them one at a time.

FAQ

Kitchen Cabinets questions

Have a question we did not answer? Call (813) 536-3976 and talk to a project manager.

Do you install kitchen cabinets in Tampa?

Yes. We install new kitchen cabinets and build custom cabinetry for homes across Hillsborough and Pinellas. Cabinet installation can be its own project or part of a full kitchen remodel.

Is cabinet refacing cheaper than new cabinets?

Refacing is often less expensive because the boxes stay, but it only makes sense if they are solid and you are keeping your layout. If you want an island, a new sink location or different cabinet heights, new cabinets are usually the better value. Ask us whether refacing or new cabinets fits your kitchen.

Are plywood cabinets better in Florida?

Plywood boxes generally resist swelling from moisture better than particleboard, which matters in a humid climate and under sinks. Particleboard can perform fine in dry areas and costs less. Many homeowners use plywood at least for the sink base.

Can you build custom cabinets?

Yes. We handle custom cabinet construction for spaces standard sizes do not fit, such as tall pantry walls, islands and cabinets that run to the ceiling. We go over options during your free estimate.

Do new cabinets mean new countertops?

Almost always. Countertops are cut and fitted to the cabinets underneath, and removing cabinets usually damages the existing tops. We coordinate templating right after the cabinets are installed.

How long does cabinet installation take?

Installation itself is usually the quicker part. Cabinet lead time and countertop fabrication tend to drive the schedule, and your proposal includes a projected timeline.
