Primary baths built for another decade

Custom homes from the 1980s and 1990s around the Keystone lakes often have generous primary baths that were designed with the style of the day: a raised garden tub under a window, glass block walls, a small tiled shower, brass fixtures and carpet or vinyl near the vanity.

The space is there; it just needs a new plan. Most owners want a large walk-in shower with a bench, multiple shower heads or a handheld, frameless glass, and separate vanities with real storage. Sometimes a freestanding tub stays as a centerpiece by the window.

Why custom homes need a careful scope

No two Odessa custom homes are framed the same way. Vaulted ceilings, angled walls and oversized windows complicate exhaust fan routing, shower wall layout and glass sizing. We measure everything and check the attic and wall framing before we finalize a layout.

Older plumbing is another factor. Depending on the age of the home, supply lines may be due for replacement, and drain changes need to work with your septic system. We look at that on the first visit so the proposal reflects the real scope.

Options we often suggest in Odessa

Every bathroom is different, but these come up again and again in Odessa homes.

  • Converting a garden tub and small shower into one large walk-in shower
  • Curbless entries and grab bar blocking for aging in place
  • Large-format porcelain tile with fewer grout lines
  • Double vanities with quartz countertops
  • Ducted exhaust fans sized for the room
  • Heated floors or better lighting in larger rooms

Permits on both sides of the county line

Bathroom projects that move plumbing or add circuits generally need a permit. Southern Odessa, including much of Keystone, generally goes through Hillsborough County, while northern Odessa near SR 54 generally goes through Pasco County. We confirm by parcel and handle the application and inspections. Florida has recently changed some permit exemptions for small projects, so check current rules with your building department before you skip a permit.

Odessa is about 13.9 miles from our Town 'n' Country office. For more on what affects the budget, see our bathroom remodel cost guide.

Permits for Odessa projects

Southern Odessa, including much of Keystone, generally permits through Hillsborough County development services, while northern Odessa near SR 54 generally permits through Pasco County building. We verify by parcel and pull the permit as your licensed contractor. Lakefront projects may need extra review, so always confirm current requirements with the building department.

We had a great experience with Dean from Green Home Remodeling. He did our kitchen and master bathroom, and we couldn’t be happier with how everything turned out. Dean was easy to work with, always communicated with us, and the price was very reasonable. He did a great job and made the whole process much easier. We would definitely recommend him!

July 2026 · St. Petersburg

Green Construction built a new pool bathroom for us to compliment the new pool we are having built in St. Petersburg Florida. While a small project, an addition to the rear of the home, it still required all the requisite sub- contractors - foundation, framing, walls, roof, plumbing, electric, mechanical, paint, tile and cabinets. The cost was very competitive and fair. Dean managed the project and was fantastic -he communicated constantly with us, coordinated with his sub- contractors efficiently, dealt with St Pete inspectors professionally, and also coordinated with our pool contractor ensuring the bathroom addition was done on time, and it did not interfere with the separate pool construction project. The addition was done so seamlessly that you would never know there was an addition to the home. Dean is very personable , friendly and accommodating. We met each other for the first time at tye pre- construction meeting - strangers at first we have become friends. That is not typically to become friends with your contractor - and I think it speaks volumes about him and Green Construction I highly recommend Green Construction and specifically working with Dean !

FAQ

Bathroom Remodeling in Odessa: FAQ

Have a question we did not answer? Call (813) 536-3976 and talk to a project manager.

Can you remove a garden tub in an Odessa custom home?

Yes. We remove the tub and platform, reframe the area and build a fully waterproofed walk-in shower. If the tub sits under a large window, we plan the shower wall and glass around it.

Does a septic system limit my bathroom remodel?

It can if you add fixtures or a new bathroom. Replacing fixtures in the same spots is usually straightforward. We review your system and confirm any county requirements before design is final.

Can you match the style of my custom Odessa home?

Yes. Custom homes often have their own look, from rustic lake-house wood tones to clean modern lines. We help you choose tile, vanities and fixtures that fit the rest of the house, and we can coordinate with a kitchen remodel so both rooms feel connected.
