Who issues bathroom permits in Oldsmar?

Oldsmar is an incorporated city in Pinellas County, so bathroom remodeling permits generally come from the City of Oldsmar's building division. That is different from homes a few miles east in Hillsborough County, and different again from unincorporated Pinellas.

Most bathroom remodels that replace a shower valve, move a drain, change wiring or alter walls need a permit and inspections. Florida has recently changed some permit exemptions for small projects, so check current rules with your building department before you skip a permit. When you hire us, we confirm requirements with the city and handle the filing and inspections.

What a typical Oldsmar bathroom looks like before we start

Much of Oldsmar was built in the 1980s, 1990s and 2000s. The bathrooms from those decades tend to share a few traits: cultured marble vanity tops with built-in sinks, tub-shower combos with fiberglass or small-format tile, mirrored walls, and brass or chrome fixtures that have lost their finish.

In primary suites from the 1990s, you often find a garden tub next to a small stall shower. Those layouts are ready for a rethink.

  • Tub-shower combo in the hall bath, often the only tub in the house
  • Garden tub plus small stall shower in the primary bath
  • Cultured marble or laminate vanity tops
  • Builder-grade exhaust fans that move little air

Moisture, the bay and doing waterproofing right

Oldsmar sits at the top of Old Tampa Bay, and humid air is a fact of life. In a bathroom, that means waterproofing and ventilation matter more than the tile you pick. We install a continuous waterproofing membrane behind shower walls and under shower floors, test it before tile, and size the exhaust fan to the room.

If your home is in a flood zone close to the water and the bathroom is part of a larger remodel, ask about the FEMA 50% substantial improvement rule before you finalize the scope. The city can confirm whether it applies to your property.

The most requested change: a walk-in shower

Swapping a tub or a small stall for a walk-in shower is the project we recommend looking at first in most Oldsmar primary baths. A low-threshold entry, a bench, a niche, a handheld wand and a frameless glass panel make the room easier to use and easier to clean. Our walk-in showers page explains the options, including curbless designs.

Yexenia, one of our reviewers, describes a finished bath with marble-look tile, gold finishes and a custom shower, with Adam as her project manager. For the full scope of what we do, see our bathroom remodeling service, and read our bathroom permit guide to understand how permits differ across the bay area.

Permits for Oldsmar projects

Oldsmar is an incorporated city in Pinellas County, so building permits typically go through the City of Oldsmar, not Hillsborough County. Homes in flood zones may face added review for larger projects. We handle the permit and inspections as your licensed contractor, but confirm current requirements with the city building department for your address.

Absolutely incredible transformation! We recently had our bathroom remodeled by Green Home Remodeling, and the results exceeded our expectations! What was once an outdated bathroom is now a beautiful, modern space that looks like something out of a magazine. A huge thank you to Adam, our project manager, for his professionalism, attention to detail, and excellent communication throughout the project. The beautiful marble-look tile, gold finishes, custom shower, and quality craftsmanship made this bathroom truly special. We couldn’t be happier with the final result and highly recommend Green Home Remodeling, especially Adam!

We had a great experience with Dean from Green Home Remodeling. He did our kitchen and master bathroom, and we couldn’t be happier with how everything turned out. Dean was easy to work with, always communicated with us, and the price was very reasonable. He did a great job and made the whole process much easier. We would definitely recommend him!

July 2026 · St. Petersburg

Green Construction built a new pool bathroom for us to compliment the new pool we are having built in St. Petersburg Florida. While a small project, an addition to the rear of the home, it still required all the requisite sub- contractors - foundation, framing, walls, roof, plumbing, electric, mechanical, paint, tile and cabinets. The cost was very competitive and fair. Dean managed the project and was fantastic -he communicated constantly with us, coordinated with his sub- contractors efficiently, dealt with St Pete inspectors professionally, and also coordinated with our pool contractor ensuring the bathroom addition was done on time, and it did not interfere with the separate pool construction project. The addition was done so seamlessly that you would never know there was an addition to the home. Dean is very personable , friendly and accommodating. We met each other for the first time at tye pre- construction meeting - strangers at first we have become friends. That is not typically to become friends with your contractor - and I think it speaks volumes about him and Green Construction I highly recommend Green Construction and specifically working with Dean !

FAQ

Bathroom Remodeling in Oldsmar: FAQ

Have a question we did not answer? Call (813) 536-3976 and talk to a project manager.

Do you work in Oldsmar even though your office is in Hillsborough County?

Yes. Our office on Memorial Hwy is about 6 miles from Oldsmar, and we handle permits with the City of Oldsmar for homes there.

Can you convert my Oldsmar tub to a shower?

Yes. A tub-to-shower conversion usually involves new drain placement, a new valve, waterproofing and tile, so it typically needs a city permit. We handle that and give you a written line-item proposal first.

How do I start?

Call (813) 536-3976 or book through our contact page. We schedule a free visit, measure the space and send a written proposal with a projected timeline.
