Inside our Palm Harbor bathroom remodel

This project is a good example of what a full bathroom remodel can do in a Palm Harbor home. The walls were painted a deep green, and a black vanity with gold faucets and hardware anchors the room. The floor is a patterned tile that gives the space a focal point, and an LED mirror lights the vanity.

The homeowner kept the tub but replaced the old curtain with a sliding glass enclosure, so the room feels cleaner and the tub stays useful. Pairing dark paint with gold metal works because the fixtures are the accent. In a room with little natural light, the LED mirror and good vanity lighting keep it from feeling heavy. The point is that the design follows you. Some owners want bold, some want calm, and the process to get there is the same.

Keep the tub or go to a shower?

That is the first decision in most Palm Harbor baths. Families with young kids, and anyone who likes a soak, usually keep a tub and upgrade the surround and enclosure, as in the project above. Owners in 55+ communities or planning to stay for decades often convert the tub to a walk-in shower with a low threshold, a bench and grab bar blocking.

Many 1980s and 1990s primary baths here have both: a large garden tub and a small shower. Removing the garden tub and building one generous shower in that space is one of the most popular changes we make.

What we replace behind the walls

This is the part you will never see, and it is what keeps a new bathroom from leaking or growing mold in a humid climate.

  • Shower valve and supply lines, which are often original
  • Drain and trap at the tub or shower
  • Exhaust fan, usually upgraded and ducted to the exterior
  • Wall board in the wet area, replaced with a waterproof system
  • Electrical for the vanity lighting and mirror, with GFCI protection

Permits and HOA rules in Palm Harbor

Palm Harbor is unincorporated, so bathroom work that touches plumbing or electrical is generally permitted through Pinellas County building services. Confirm with the county for your address. If you live in an HOA or golf community, check the rules on contractor hours, parking and dumpsters before work starts.

Our office is about 13 miles away in Town 'n' Country. You get a written proposal with a projected timeline, and our bathroom remodel cost guide explains what drives the budget.

Permits for Palm Harbor projects

Palm Harbor is unincorporated, so remodeling permits generally go through Pinellas County building services rather than a city. As the licensed contractor, we submit the permit, schedule inspections and close it out. Waterfront homes near the Gulf or Lake Tarpon may have flood zone requirements, so we confirm with the county building department for your address.

We had a great experience with Dean from Green Home Remodeling. He did our kitchen and master bathroom, and we couldn’t be happier with how everything turned out. Dean was easy to work with, always communicated with us, and the price was very reasonable. He did a great job and made the whole process much easier. We would definitely recommend him!

July 2026 · St. Petersburg

Green Construction built a new pool bathroom for us to compliment the new pool we are having built in St. Petersburg Florida. While a small project, an addition to the rear of the home, it still required all the requisite sub- contractors - foundation, framing, walls, roof, plumbing, electric, mechanical, paint, tile and cabinets. The cost was very competitive and fair. Dean managed the project and was fantastic -he communicated constantly with us, coordinated with his sub- contractors efficiently, dealt with St Pete inspectors professionally, and also coordinated with our pool contractor ensuring the bathroom addition was done on time, and it did not interfere with the separate pool construction project. The addition was done so seamlessly that you would never know there was an addition to the home. Dean is very personable , friendly and accommodating. We met each other for the first time at tye pre- construction meeting - strangers at first we have become friends. That is not typically to become friends with your contractor - and I think it speaks volumes about him and Green Construction I highly recommend Green Construction and specifically working with Dean !

FAQ

Bathroom Remodeling in Palm Harbor: FAQ

Have a question we did not answer? Call (813) 536-3976 and talk to a project manager.

Can you replace a shower curtain with a glass tub enclosure?

Yes. Our Palm Harbor project used a sliding glass enclosure on the tub. Glass can be added during a full remodel or as part of a tub surround update.

Do Palm Harbor bathroom remodels need a permit?

Most do if plumbing or electrical changes. Palm Harbor is unincorporated, so we pull the permit through Pinellas County.

Can I remove my garden tub and build a bigger shower?

Usually yes. The tub space typically becomes a larger walk-in shower, and we reroute the drain and waterproof the new area.
