Designing for the long term

A large share of Largo homeowners plan to stay put for many years, and many live in 55+ communities. That shapes how we design a bathroom here. The goal is a room that looks good now and still works if mobility changes later.

In practice that means:

  • A walk-in shower with a low or zero threshold in place of a tub
  • Wood blocking in the walls so grab bars can go anywhere, now or later
  • A built-in bench or space for a seat, and a handheld shower on a slide bar
  • Comfort-height toilet and a vanity with open knee space where needed
  • Slip-resistant floor tile and brighter, even lighting

What is behind the walls in a Largo bathroom

Most Largo homes from the 1960s to the 1980s still have original drain lines under the slab, often cast iron, and supply piping that has been patched over the years. When we gut a bathroom we inspect what we can reach and recommend replacement where it is due. We write that into the proposal so it is not a surprise later.

Ventilation is another common gap. Many older baths here rely on a window or an undersized fan, and a humid Florida bathroom needs a properly ducted exhaust fan to prevent mildew.

Tub-to-shower conversion or full remodel?

If the vanity, toilet and floor are in decent shape, converting the tub to a walk-in shower may be enough. We remove the tub, adjust the drain, build a waterproof shower and add glass. If the room is original throughout, a full remodel replaces everything at once and is usually the better value, since the floor and walls have to be disturbed anyway.

We look at both options during the free estimate and price them side by side when that helps you decide.

Condo and villa bathrooms

In a condo, the bathroom above or below yours belongs to a neighbor, so waterproofing has to be right. We install a continuous waterproof membrane and test the shower pan before tile. Associations usually require an approved application and the contractor's insurance certificate first, and we supply those.

Permits and our Largo work

Bathroom remodels with plumbing or electrical changes are usually permitted through the City of Largo, or through Pinellas County if your address is unincorporated. Confirm with the building department. We pull the permit and schedule inspections.

We are about 14 miles away, and our work in Largo includes Konstantin's full renovation, where he called out the quality of the bathrooms. Our tub-to-shower conversion guide goes deeper on accessible design.

Permits for Largo projects

Homes inside city limits are permitted through the City of Largo building department. Many homes with a Largo mailing address, such as parts of Ridgecrest and Bardmoor, are in unincorporated Pinellas County and go through the county instead. We confirm the right office for your address, pull the permit as your licensed contractor and schedule inspections.

FAQ

Bathroom Remodeling in Largo: FAQ

Have a question we did not answer? Call (813) 536-3976 and talk to a project manager.

Can you make my Largo bathroom accessible without it looking clinical?

Yes. A curbless shower, good tile, a floating vanity and grab bars in finishes that match the faucets look like a normal modern bath. Blocking lets you add bars later only if you need them.

Do Largo bathroom remodels need a permit?

If plumbing, electrical or walls change, usually yes. We confirm whether the City of Largo or Pinellas County covers your address and pull the permit.
