Pink tile, mortar beds and old pipes

Some Carrollwood bathrooms still have the colored tile they were built with: pink, mint, powder blue or butter yellow. That tile was often set in a thick mortar bed, which is durable but heavy to remove. Behind it, you may find galvanized or early copper supply lines and cast iron drains that have been working for decades.

We plan for full demolition to the studs in most original baths. It costs more up front than tiling over the old walls, but it lets us replace the pipes, install a proper waterproofing membrane and start the new bath on a clean surface.

Making a small bath feel larger

Primary baths in Carrollwood Village homes from the later 1970s and 1980s are often larger, with a separate tub and shower. There, combining the two into one generous walk-in shower is a common plan.

Original ranch bathrooms are often compact, around five by eight feet in many hall baths. We usually do not move walls in a room that size. Instead, we choose details that make it feel bigger.

  • Swap the tub for a walk-in shower with a frameless glass panel
  • Use large-format tile to reduce grout lines
  • Install a floating vanity to show more floor
  • Add a recessed niche instead of a shower caddy
  • Replace a single ceiling light with a lit mirror or sconces

Should a long-time owner plan for aging in place?

Many Carrollwood owners have lived in their homes for a long time and plan to stay. If that is you, it makes sense to build in accessibility now rather than retrofit later. A low-threshold or curbless shower, a built-in bench, wall blocking for grab bars, a comfort-height toilet and a handheld shower wand are simple to include during a remodel.

Our walk-in showers page covers the options, and the tub-to-shower and aging-in-place guide explains clearances and design choices.

Permit, process and proposal

Most of Carrollwood is unincorporated, so bathroom permits typically come from Hillsborough County. Replacing supply lines, moving a drain or changing wiring generally requires a permit and inspection before the walls close. We file the permit and meet the inspector; confirm current requirements with the county for your address.

After a free visit, you get a written, line-item proposal with a projected timeline and one project manager from start to finish. A reviewer named Michael had his kitchen and master bathroom done with Dean as project manager. See our bathroom remodeling service for full details.

Permits for Carrollwood projects

Most of Carrollwood is unincorporated Hillsborough County, so permits generally come from Hillsborough County Development Services. A few addresses near the edges may fall under a different authority, so we confirm for each property. Older homes often need electrical or plumbing upgrades that are inspected as part of the permit; confirm current requirements with the building department.

Absolutely incredible transformation! We recently had our bathroom remodeled by Green Home Remodeling, and the results exceeded our expectations! What was once an outdated bathroom is now a beautiful, modern space that looks like something out of a magazine. A huge thank you to Adam, our project manager, for his professionalism, attention to detail, and excellent communication throughout the project. The beautiful marble-look tile, gold finishes, custom shower, and quality craftsmanship made this bathroom truly special. We couldn’t be happier with the final result and highly recommend Green Home Remodeling, especially Adam!

We had a great experience with Dean from Green Home Remodeling. He did our kitchen and master bathroom, and we couldn’t be happier with how everything turned out. Dean was easy to work with, always communicated with us, and the price was very reasonable. He did a great job and made the whole process much easier. We would definitely recommend him!

July 2026 · St. Petersburg

Green Construction built a new pool bathroom for us to compliment the new pool we are having built in St. Petersburg Florida. While a small project, an addition to the rear of the home, it still required all the requisite sub- contractors - foundation, framing, walls, roof, plumbing, electric, mechanical, paint, tile and cabinets. The cost was very competitive and fair. Dean managed the project and was fantastic -he communicated constantly with us, coordinated with his sub- contractors efficiently, dealt with St Pete inspectors professionally, and also coordinated with our pool contractor ensuring the bathroom addition was done on time, and it did not interfere with the separate pool construction project. The addition was done so seamlessly that you would never know there was an addition to the home. Dean is very personable , friendly and accommodating. We met each other for the first time at tye pre- construction meeting - strangers at first we have become friends. That is not typically to become friends with your contractor - and I think it speaks volumes about him and Green Construction I highly recommend Green Construction and specifically working with Dean !

FAQ

Bathroom Remodeling in Carrollwood: FAQ

Have a question we did not answer? Call (813) 536-3976 and talk to a project manager.

Can you save my vintage tile?

Usually not if we are replacing the plumbing behind it, since removing mortar-bed tile intact is rarely practical. If you love the vintage look, we can help you choose new tile in a similar color or pattern.

Is it worth replacing the pipes during a Carrollwood bath remodel?

In most original homes, yes. The walls are already open, so replacing aging supply lines at that point costs far less than opening finished tile later.

How far are you from Carrollwood, and who will run my project?

Our office on Memorial Hwy is about 6.5 miles away. One project manager runs your bathroom from the first visit to the final inspection and is your single point of contact.
