Is it time to lose the garden tub?

Many Lutz homes built in the 1990s and 2000s came with a large primary bath centered on a corner garden tub, a small fiberglass or tile stall shower, and a long vanity with a big flat mirror. Owners tell us the tub rarely gets used while the shower feels cramped.

Swapping the tub and stall for one large walk-in shower with a bench, niche and frameless glass is the project we hear about most. In bigger rooms, a freestanding tub can stay as a feature while the shower grows. Our walk-in showers page shows the options.

Secondary baths in older Lutz homes

In 1970s and 1980s homes around the lakes and back roads, hall baths are often small with original tile and a tub-shower combo. These projects typically include new supply lines, a new tub or shower, a vanity with real storage and a ducted exhaust fan.

Homes on septic need a little extra thought if we add a fixture or relocate a drain. We check that early so the plan works with your system rather than against it.

Tile, glass and finishes that hold up

Large-format porcelain on shower walls means fewer grout lines to clean, and a smaller mosaic on the shower floor gives better grip and lets the floor slope properly to the drain. Frameless glass keeps a big primary bath feeling open, which matters in the generous rooms many Lutz homes have.

For vanities, owners often move from one long builder counter with a single sink to two separate vanities or a double vanity with drawers. If you are updating the kitchen at the same time, our Lutz kitchen remodeling page explains how we coordinate both.

Planning a bath you can stay in

Plenty of Lutz homeowners have been on their land for decades and plan to stay. That makes aging-in-place details worth considering now: a curbless or low-threshold shower, blocking in the walls for grab bars, a comfort-height toilet, wider doorways and slip-resistant tile. They can look like any other well-designed bathroom. Our tub-to-shower conversion guide goes deeper.

Who handles permits for a Lutz bathroom?

We do, as your licensed contractor. Most Lutz homes are in unincorporated Hillsborough County, while the northern part of Lutz is in Pasco County, and we confirm which applies by parcel. Bathroom work that moves plumbing or adds circuits generally needs a permit. Florida has recently changed some permit exemptions for small projects, so check current rules with your building department before you skip a permit.

Lutz is about 13 miles from our Town 'n' Country office. Your project manager is your single point of contact through final inspection.

Permits for Lutz projects

Most Lutz homes are in unincorporated Hillsborough County and permit through Hillsborough County development services, while addresses north of the county line permit through Pasco County building. We confirm jurisdiction by parcel and pull the permit as your licensed contractor. Requirements change, so always confirm current rules with the building department.

Absolutely incredible transformation! We recently had our bathroom remodeled by Green Home Remodeling, and the results exceeded our expectations! What was once an outdated bathroom is now a beautiful, modern space that looks like something out of a magazine. A huge thank you to Adam, our project manager, for his professionalism, attention to detail, and excellent communication throughout the project. The beautiful marble-look tile, gold finishes, custom shower, and quality craftsmanship made this bathroom truly special. We couldn’t be happier with the final result and highly recommend Green Home Remodeling, especially Adam!

We had a great experience with Dean from Green Home Remodeling. He did our kitchen and master bathroom, and we couldn’t be happier with how everything turned out. Dean was easy to work with, always communicated with us, and the price was very reasonable. He did a great job and made the whole process much easier. We would definitely recommend him!

July 2026 · St. Petersburg

Green Construction built a new pool bathroom for us to compliment the new pool we are having built in St. Petersburg Florida. While a small project, an addition to the rear of the home, it still required all the requisite sub- contractors - foundation, framing, walls, roof, plumbing, electric, mechanical, paint, tile and cabinets. The cost was very competitive and fair. Dean managed the project and was fantastic -he communicated constantly with us, coordinated with his sub- contractors efficiently, dealt with St Pete inspectors professionally, and also coordinated with our pool contractor ensuring the bathroom addition was done on time, and it did not interfere with the separate pool construction project. The addition was done so seamlessly that you would never know there was an addition to the home. Dean is very personable , friendly and accommodating. We met each other for the first time at tye pre- construction meeting - strangers at first we have become friends. That is not typically to become friends with your contractor - and I think it speaks volumes about him and Green Construction I highly recommend Green Construction and specifically working with Dean !
