What does a typical New Tampa primary bath look like?

Homes built here from the late 1980s through the 2000s share a familiar primary bath: a large corner garden tub, often on a tiled deck, a separate shower with a framed glass door, a long double vanity with cultured marble or early granite, and a big mirror lit by a strip of vanity bulbs. Many have a plant shelf or a water closet with its own door.

Twenty or thirty years in, the original showers are usually the weak point. Grout and caulk are tired, and some older shower pans and surrounds may not have the waterproofing we use today.

From garden tub to walk-in shower

The most common New Tampa bathroom request is removing the garden tub and combining that space with the old shower to build one large walk-in shower. With the extra room, you can add a bench, a niche at a useful height, a rain head plus handheld, and frameless glass. A low-threshold or curbless entry makes it easier to use for years to come.

Some owners keep a tub by switching to a freestanding model in a new spot. We sketch both layouts during the estimate.

Under the new tile, we install a continuous waterproofing membrane on the walls and a properly sloped pan, then add a ducted exhaust fan if the original one is undersized. One reviewer, Yexenia, described a bathroom with marble-look tile, gold finishes and a custom shower guided by our project manager Adam, a look that suits the larger primary baths in many New Tampa homes.

Guest and kids' baths

Secondary baths in New Tampa usually have a tub-shower combo, a single vanity and builder tile. They do not need a new layout to feel new: a fresh tub or tiled shower, a vanity with drawers, a quartz top, better lighting and a quieter exhaust fan go a long way. We often do the guest bath at the same time as the primary to keep disruption to one period.

Working inside New Tampa's HOA communities

Interior bathroom work usually does not require architectural approval, but HOAs in Tampa Palms, Hunter's Green and other gated communities typically have rules on contractor access, hours and dumpsters. We follow them and help you notify the association if needed.

Permits come from the City of Tampa because New Tampa sits inside city limits. Work that moves plumbing or adds circuits generally needs one. Florida has recently changed some permit exemptions for small projects, so check current rules with your building department before you skip a permit.

Permits for New Tampa projects

New Tampa is part of the City of Tampa, so remodeling permits go through the City of Tampa building department (Construction Services). HOA architectural approval may be required first for exterior work. We pull permits and schedule inspections as your licensed contractor, but always confirm current requirements with the building department.

Absolutely incredible transformation! We recently had our bathroom remodeled by Green Home Remodeling, and the results exceeded our expectations! What was once an outdated bathroom is now a beautiful, modern space that looks like something out of a magazine. A huge thank you to Adam, our project manager, for his professionalism, attention to detail, and excellent communication throughout the project. The beautiful marble-look tile, gold finishes, custom shower, and quality craftsmanship made this bathroom truly special. We couldn’t be happier with the final result and highly recommend Green Home Remodeling, especially Adam!

We had a great experience with Dean from Green Home Remodeling. He did our kitchen and master bathroom, and we couldn’t be happier with how everything turned out. Dean was easy to work with, always communicated with us, and the price was very reasonable. He did a great job and made the whole process much easier. We would definitely recommend him!

July 2026 · St. Petersburg

Green Construction built a new pool bathroom for us to compliment the new pool we are having built in St. Petersburg Florida. While a small project, an addition to the rear of the home, it still required all the requisite sub- contractors - foundation, framing, walls, roof, plumbing, electric, mechanical, paint, tile and cabinets. The cost was very competitive and fair. Dean managed the project and was fantastic -he communicated constantly with us, coordinated with his sub- contractors efficiently, dealt with St Pete inspectors professionally, and also coordinated with our pool contractor ensuring the bathroom addition was done on time, and it did not interfere with the separate pool construction project. The addition was done so seamlessly that you would never know there was an addition to the home. Dean is very personable , friendly and accommodating. We met each other for the first time at tye pre- construction meeting - strangers at first we have become friends. That is not typically to become friends with your contractor - and I think it speaks volumes about him and Green Construction I highly recommend Green Construction and specifically working with Dean !
